The reefs of the upper Keys are shallow — typically 40 feet or less. This makes this trip perfect for new divers as well as photographers. You’ll typically see a variety of fish and other aquatic creatures, as well as beautiful stands of elkhorn and staghorn coral.
The statue is located in approximately 25 feet of water near Dry Rocks, approximately six miles east of Key Largo. This falls within the National Marine Sanctuary, just outside of John Pennekamp State Park. The statue weighs more than 400 pounds. The concrete base to which it is attached weighs approximately nine tons.
