The final two steps to becoming an instructor are the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and Instructor Evaluation (IE). The IDC is the first of these steps.
Coming into this program, candidates are already certified Divemasters. This means:
- They already possess instructor-level of topics such as physics, physiology, environment and equipment.
- They are familiar with the overall instructional process having assisted with actual classes and having conducted guided dives for certified divers.
- If the Divemaster received their certification through Aquatic Ventures, they’ve gained additional experience in dive center operation and customer interaction.
The primary focus of the IDC is on how to teach. Candidates learn how to organize and conduct teaching presentations and skill practice in the classroom, pool and open water.
Upon successful completion of the IDC, candidates should be ready for the final Instructor Evaluation.
