Princess Britney/Paraiso Reef • Sunday, June 12

The 165-foot German-built freighter Princess Britney lies in nearly 90 feet of water off Key Biscayne. It makes a great dive for those with Advanced or Deep Diver training.

The site

The 298-ton Princess Britney was launched on July 10, 1956, as the Heinz Helmutby Nobiskrug Werft. in 2001, the vessel was named Princess Britney after her sale to Salvador Shipping and Trading. A year later, she was seized by US Customs after agents discovered more than 156 pounds of cocaine. The forfeited vessel was subsequently cleaned and sunk in 80 feet of water off Key Biscayne in 2003.

The diving

The Princess Britney sits upright and intact, with the top of the wreck in just over 60 feet of water. Nearby are several other artificial reefs, such as the South Seas. This rests roughly 250 feet to the southwest. With a max depth of nearly 90 feet, this dive requires Advanced or Deep Diver training, or equivalent experience.

Following the Princess Britney dive, we will make a second dive on Paraiso Reef.
