Hog Heaven takes its name from the abundant schools of hogfish that call the wreck home. In addition to the wreck itself, the area is littered with objects that were added to facilitate the growth of an artificial reef.

The wreck
Hog Heaven is a 180-foot barge sunk in 1986 as part of the artificial reef program. As it sunk, the wreck flipped upside-down. In 1988, a dredge pipe and concrete bridge beams were added to the site to help foster the formation of an artificial reef

The diving
The wreck lies in 64 feet of water. It is possible to enter the wreck; however, doing so poses risks caused by it fragile structure and sharp, rusty metal edges. Penetration is not necessary to enjoy the abundant coral and other aquatic life that cover the wreck. Following a first dive on the barge, we will move inshore to dive on a shallow reef.
