The wreck

The 210-ton vessel was sunk during Dania Beach’s centennial celebration. However, the reef was later dedicated to the memory of Robert E. Derecktor, a well-known local shipbuilder whose company Derecktor Shipyards donated the vessel. Divers visiting the area will be treated to an array of marine life, including jacks, spadefish, grunts and the occasional Goliath Grouper.

The diving

Today, Miss Dania Beach sits upright in 70 feet of water with a slight list to port. Nearby are the 55-foot former LCM Emmi Boggs, the 40-foot yacht Summerfield and the tug Donald G. McAllister.

Overall, the deck ihas been largely flattened. The exception is the bow. There are areas here where divers can penetrate. divers can also drop into the cargo bays. Here divers can find swim-throughs, cracks, and other penetrable features.

Following the first dive, we will move to nearby Barracuda Reef for a dive in 30 feet of water.
